Healing Trauma Through Therapy and Yoga with Louise Holcomb

This week on Balance Your Life podcast I am joined by Louise Holcomb. Louise grew up in south-east London, and had roots firmly planted there while also always pursuing travel and seeing the world. She moved to the US in 2013 to be with her wonderful husband, Jeff, and soon after that, they traveled the states for over 2+ years in their 1984 Chevy van. During this time Louise left for a month-long 200hour YTT in Mexico, which completely changed her life. During the training she unearthed real trauma from her childhood. Since then, she has been on her own healing journey, while studying and teaching trauma-informed yoga. After completing her 500 hr. YTT she realized her passion for sharing the transformative powers of Yoga and Ayurveda, and have been teaching in addiction recovery and for people experiencing homelessness for the last 2 years. She has since launched her own online offerings through Be Moved Yoga, and now has a fully online, self-paced course called Heal Holistically, for anyone who wants to discover true healing through these amazing practices. On this episode we discuss starting her journey with bikram yoga as a form of physical exercise, and releasing childhood trauma through yoga. We discussing healing modalities like therapy, breathwork, meditation, yoga and Ayurveda, as well as the basics of Ayurveda and how to use it in your life.

Prison, Mental Health, and How Yoga Changed It All with Brandon Dawson-Jarvis

Pilates VS. Yoga: The Benefits and Differences Between Both with Theresa Carter

Theresa is a Certified Mat Pilates Instructor, Reformer Trained and Integrated Movement Therapist – Body Harmonics & Second Wind (Pure Pilates). She is also certified in Yin Yoga, Restorative yoga, Reiki Level II and is a 250-hour certified yoga teacher. Pilates and Yoga led Theresa to discover a fascination of healing the physical body through mindful, fluid motion. She has been teaching Pilates since 2008 and loves the simple pleasures of life such as a cup of tea, or sitting by the lake hearing the waves. You can find her either by the lake or in the trees on her spare time. On this episode we discuss how she came to Pilates after suffering with scoliosis, how Pilates is similar to certain yoga styles but also has its differences, and why having an intention in a Pilates and Yoga class is so important. We also discuss why practicing a softer side of yoga is so complimentary to having a physical practice, the benefits of both yoga and Pilates, and so much more!
